Brahmasthanam Temple

Brahmasthanam Temple (1999)

The Palakkad Brahmasthanam Temple, consecrated by AMMA, Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, on 22 January 1999, marked a new era in worship—rooted in ancient wisdom yet meaningful for the modern world. AMMA envisioned a sacred space where devotion would be sincere, rituals purposeful, and God directly accessible to all, beyond caste, religion, gender, or nationality. At the temple’s heart stands a unique four-faced stone murthi—Shiva, Devi, Ganesha, and a serpent symbolizing Kundalini, Rahu, and Murugan—expressing AMMA’s vision of unity in diversity. “We are worshiping a God beyond all differences,” she teaches. AMMA also transformed the puja tradition by allowing devotees to perform the rituals themselves, encouraging a direct spiritual connection. Her words still guide the practice: “If you are hungry, it’s not enough that someone else eats.” The real consecration, AMMA reminds us, must take place within the heart.

In May 2013, a Chuttambalam—a raised four-sided platform—was added around the temple to facilitate Pradakshinam, Homam, and other sacred practices, further enhancing the spiritual atmosphere and supporting deeper forms of worship.
